Tutorial - Embellishing your hoody

This tutorial takes you through how I embellished the grey Hoody with an old "doily" or crochet table cloth we bought at a second hand store. The method is similar if you chose to embellish your hoody with lace.  You are only limited by your imagination, but it is much easy to make a good job if you decorate your pieces of fabric prior to sewing them together.

1.   First of all, decide on your design. Lay out our fabric pieces on top of the crochet table cloth (or embellishing fabric) and cut it to the same shape. I only wanted the crochet layer to come 1/3rd of the way down the sleeve. You can make it cover as much as you like.

2.   I then sewed the crochet to the sleeve piece to secure it in place. I sewed as close to the seam edge as possible so that my stitches would be concealed when the sleeve was sewn to the bodice. I also took my time to carefully sew the lower edge of the crochet to the sleeve, following the curve of the circles. If your embellishing fabric is particularly delicate or intricate you may need to sew it on by hand. You can see the stitching on the inside of the sleeve (but hopefully not on the outside where the crochet sits).

3.   I followed a similar method to embellish the hood. I cut out the crochet hood the same shape as the fleece hood and attached it to the fleece hood piece along the outside edges where it was later stitched over when the hoody was sewn together.

Once the embellishments were secured to the fabric pieces I simply followed the standard pattern instructions.
